Crown Reduction
Reduction in the length of branches, specified in metres, applying to both the height and width of the canopy reducing the overall size of the tree, whilst retaining an aesthetically pleasing shape.
Crown Thinning
Removing selected branches throughout the canopy area, to reduce the overall density of the trees crown area. The aim of the works is to increase dappled sunlight through the canopy of the tree.
Crown Lifting
Removal or reduction of lower branches to provide a specified clearance in metres from ground level. In simple terms, if 5 metres is specified there should be no side branches encountered up to a height of 5 metres from ground level.
Complete Tree Removal / Tree Felling
Removal of a tree to ground level either in sections or using felling cuts from ground level.
Pollarding
Involves the complete removal of all branches from the upper crown to retain the tree trunk at a a specified height, with a small leafless crown commonly referred to as a “Pollarding Head”
Crown Cleaning
Involves the removal of dead, broken, split branches and old stubs.
Formative Pruning
Applies to young newly planted trees. Involves the pruning of branches to encourage the development of a well structured crown shape and general form.
Fruit Tree Pruning
Involves the pruning of fruit trees to favour the development of healthy vigorous fruit crops. Both the timing and pruning methods used are key to healthy fruit production.
